Fresh pear

Product name: Fresh Pear, scientific name Pyrus communs, English name Pearl. Fresh pear orchards, packaging factories, and refrigerated warehouses exported to China must be registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development of the Republic of South Africa (hereinafter referred to as "DALRRD") and approved for registration by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as "GACC"). The registration information must include the name, address, and registration number in order to accurately trace the origin of exported goods that do not comply with the relevant provisions of this quarantine requirement. Before the export season each year, DALRRD provides GACC with a registration list, and the list of approved enterprises can be found on the GACC official website.

1、 Pre export requirements

Orchard management

1. Fresh pear orchards exported to China should establish and implement Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), maintain orchard hygiene, promptly clean fallen fruits, prune at the end of the season, and implement Integrated Pest Control (IPM), including pest monitoring and investigation, chemical control, biological control, and agricultural operations.

2. The monitoring and control of harmful organisms in fresh pear orchards exported to China should be completed under the guidance of professional technical personnel, who must be trained by DALRRD or its authorized institution.

3. Fresh pear orchards exported to China should keep monitoring and investigation records of quarantine pests of concern to the Chinese side, as well as chemical and biological control records implemented. The records should include the names of chemical agents used during the growing season, effective ingredients, dosage, application time, etc., and should be provided to GACC upon request.

For Mediterranean fruit flies and Natal fruit flies, comprehensive management measures should be taken in fresh pear producing areas, including the use of traps, chemical control, biological control, and control methods that affect mating. Growers are required to keep all records of controlling these two types of fruit flies and provide them to GACC upon request.

For apple moth, monitoring should be carried out in fresh pear orchards, packaging factories, and surrounding production areas. The monitoring time starts from the blooming period and continues until the end of fresh pear packaging work. The density of traps is set at 1 per hectare, and no less than 3 traps should be set in each orchard. Check the traps at least once every two weeks, if three or more apples are found in the traps

3、 Quarantine processing requirements

1. Fresh pears exported to China must undergo cold treatment under the supervision of DALRRD officials or their authorized personnel. The requirements for cold treatment indicators are as follows:

The central temperature of the fruit pulp is 1 ° C or less, and the continuous processing time is 16 days or more;

Or the center temperature of the fruit pulp is 2.1 ° C or below, and the continuous processing time is 21 days or more.

2. The cold treatment procedure can be executed in accordance with the pre export cold treatment operating procedures or the cold treatment operating procedures during transportation.

4、 Entry quarantine and unqualified handling

When fresh pears arrive at the port of entry in China, Chinese customs shall carry out quarantine in accordance with the following requirements.

（1） Verification of certificates and markings

1. Fresh pears exported to China should be imported from ports allowed by GACC for importing fruits.

2. According to relevant laws, administrative regulations, rules, and other regulations, inspection and quarantine shall be carried out on imported fresh pears. Those who pass the inspection and quarantine shall be allowed to enter the country.

（2） Entry inspection and quarantine

1. Fresh pears exported to China should be imported from ports allowed by GACC for importing fruits.

（3） Handling of non-compliance with requirements

If it is found to come from an unapproved orchard or packaging factory, the batch of fresh pears shall not be allowed to enter the country.

If the cold treatment is deemed invalid, the batch of fresh pears will undergo quarantine measures such as onshore cold treatment (if it can still be carried out in this container), return, and destruction.

3. If the Mediterranean fruit fly, Natal fruit fly, or apple moth are found to be alive, the batch of fresh pears shall be returned, destroyed, or treated with pest control. Meanwhile, GACC will immediately notify DALRRD to suspend the export of fresh pears from relevant orchards or packaging factories to China. DALRRD should identify the cause and implement corresponding improvement measures to avoid recurrence. GACC will evaluate the improvement measures taken by DALRRD and decide whether to cancel the suspension measures already taken based on the evaluation results.

4. If other quarantine harmful organisms are found alive, the batch of fresh pears shall be returned, destroyed, or subjected to disinfection treatment. GACC will take further measures based on the situation and promptly notify DALRRD. DALRRD should immediately conduct an investigation to identify the cause and implement corresponding improvement measures.
