1、 What is DHA

 

 

 

DHA is a major component in the growth and maintenance of nervous system cells, and is an important component of the brain and retina. It is present in up to 20% of the human cerebral cortex and accounts for the largest proportion, approximately 50%, in the retina of the eye. It is crucial for the intellectual and visual development of fetuses and infants.

 

During pregnancy, DHA has the ability to optimize the phospholipid composition of fetal brain pyramidal cells. 3、 How to import food containing DHA?

 

 

 

1. Admission requirements

 

The General Administration of Customs evaluates the food safety management system and food safety status of countries or regions exporting food to China for the first time, and only products from countries with acceptable risks are allowed to be imported.

 

 

 

2. Enterprise registration

 

Overseas food production enterprises should register with the General Administration of Customs of China. If imported food containing DHA belongs to health products, they should apply for health food registration with the Chinese National Food and Drug Administration. Overseas production enterprises of dairy products containing DHA should be established with the approval of the competent government department of the exporting country or region, and comply with the relevant laws and regulations of the exporting country or region. Enterprises should be familiar with and ensure that their exported dairy products to China comply with the national food safety standards and relevant requirements of China.

 

 

 

3. Requirements for Importers and Exporters

 

Exporters or agents exporting food to China shall file a record with the General Administration of Customs. Importers of DHA containing dairy products should have food safety professionals, management personnel, and regulations to ensure food safety. All DHA containing dairy products exported to China must be accompanied by foreign official health certificates, product testing reports, and Chinese labels. The foreign health certificate should clearly state that the raw materials of dairy products come from healthy animals, the dairy production enterprises are under the supervision of local government authorities, and the dairy products are safe and edible for human consumption. The test report should prove that the dairy product meets the requirements of Chinese standards.

 

 

 

4. Customs clearance, inspection and quarantine

 

Customs shall implement inspection and quarantine of imported food in accordance with national food safety standards, bilateral agreements, protocols, memorandums, and other requirements.
