What are the changes in food labeling in 2022
New changes in the labeling of imported health foods and special dietary foods
01 Imported health food and special dietary food
On April 12, 2021, the General Administration of Customs issued Order No. 249 (on the promulgation of the "Measures for the Administration of Import and Export Food Safety of the People's Republic of China"), which stipulates in Article 30 that Chinese labels for imported health food and special dietary food must be printed on the minimum sales packaging and cannot be added. It will be officially implemented from January 1, 2022.

Sports nutrition food with Chinese labels
Starting from January 1, 2022, the above-mentioned sports nutrition food with Chinese labels will not be allowed to be imported. Before negotiating import procurement, importers need to communicate with foreign merchants to print the Chinese labels on the minimum sales packaging of the two major categories of food, to avoid customs clearance delays or inability to import due to non compliant labels after the goods are transported to China.
Labeling requirements for imported fresh frozen meat products
02 Imported fresh frozen meat products
For imported fresh frozen meat products, there should be strong, clear, and easily recognizable Chinese and English or Chinese language and export country (region) text markings on the inner and outer packaging.
Indicate the following:
Country (region) of origin, product name, production enterprise registration number, and production batch number;
The outer packaging should be marked in Chinese:
Specifications, place of origin (specific to state/province/city), destination, production date, shelf life, storage temperature, etc. must be marked with the destination being the People's Republic of China, and the official inspection and quarantine label of the exporting country (region) must be affixed.
