What is cat litter?
Cat litter refers to the object used by the owner to bury feces and urine for their cats, often appearing in granular form. Cats have a natural tendency to bury their excrement with sand, and cat litter plays a role in simulating sand. This loose granular material can quickly absorb water, and the odor in feces mainly comes from ammonia gas, which is highly soluble in water, so cat litter has good moisture absorption and deodorization performance. It can be said that today people can keep cats indoors, and the invention of cat litter is indispensable.
Classification and customs classification of cat litter
Cat litter has developed into various natural or non natural materials to this day. Classification suggestion: Based on the composition and production process, it is generally classified according to the main material of the composition:
——Silicone cat litter: composed of blue silicone particles (silica) and white (natural color) silicone particles with coloring substances added. This product is used to absorb liquids and special odors from pet urine, feces, and is a safe and environmentally friendly product for home use.
Classification suggestion: As chemical products and preparations not listed in other categories, they should be classified under the tax code column 3824.9999.
——Natural clay cat litter: Composed of unrefined natural clay particles, it is ground, screened, and sprayed with colorants and deodorants before being made into retail packaging.
Classification suggestion: It should be included in the tax code column 3824.9999.
——Plant cat litter: mainly composed of straw stalks, sorghum stalks, sorghum seeds (including shells), and sorghum. The processing process involves mixing and rolling the above raw materials, baking them at 160 degrees Celsius, and squeezing them into light yellow particles under 5000 Pa of high pressure. Mainly used for domestic cats to cover their excrement. 5 pounds per pack separately.
Classification suggestion: It should be included in the tax code column 1404.9090.
——Wooden cat litter: Granular, mainly composed of wood fiber, pea fiber, guar gum, calcium sulfate, and sodium bicarbonate. It has functions such as agglomeration, water absorption, antibacterial, and deodorization.
Classification suggestion: It should be included in the tax code column 4421.9990.
01 Bentonite cat litter
Bentonite cat litter, also known as condensed cat litter, can condense cat excrement into easily movable small pieces, making it convenient for owners to use a shovel to remove it. This type of cat litter is generally made from natural non activated bentonite, and the production process usually involves mixing raw materials (additives such as bentonite and deodorants) → granulation → drying → screening → packaging.
Among them, additives become a key factor in classification. If cat litter contains additives, heading 38.24 applies. If natural particle bentonite is directly used to make cat litter without additives and only undergoes high-temperature drying, it is suitable for heading 25.08. Natural bentonite without additives is a product with tax number 2508.1000, but products on the market usually contain additives such as deodorants, fragrances, and pigments, which should be classified as not listed
